Sayeed Ibn Ameer (RA) Story of a poor governor
Sayeed Ibn Ameer (RA) was a Allah fearing man. He always preferred the Hereafter over the world. During the reign of Hazrat Omar (RA) he was the governor of Hims the present day near syria. One day a delegation from Hims came to Omar's court. Omar asked them for list of the poor. The delegation prepared the list and gave it to him. That list also included the name of their governor Sayeed. Omar (RA) wondered and said your governer is also a poor person? They said Yes, that day after day they have nothing to cook, the fire does not burn in the stove. Omar (RA) broke down in tears. He raised his hands and prayed for Sayeed and his family. He gave them 1000 gold coins and said that these are for your governor. With these he can meet the needs of his family. The delegation went to Hims and gave the gift given by Omar to Sayeed. Sayeed (RA) was terrified when he saw the dinars. He praised Allah with Innalillah. He said that danger has entered my house. Then he with help of his wife, distributed all the dinars among the poor. This was the history of the abandontment of our ancestors.
